What can I do to make my acrylic nails last longer?

Ok so i really want acrylic nails but i hear that they can cause fungus and that type of stuff so i am trying to make that my last resort to cover up my ugly nails ... I was wondering if nail boutiques do they glue on nails conceopt ? Does anybody know !?

  • Answer:

okay, so they don't cause fungus because i have been getting my nails done for a very long time. You just need to keep getting them filled in every three weeks or that could be bad, or just get them taken off.

Yes, you can ge nail fungus from any type of nail enhancement whether it be gels, acrylics, or wraps. But, it is not the nail enhancement that causes the fungus. Fungus generally occurs when an artificial nail has started to 'lift' aroud the edge of it. This can cause a gap between the natural nail, and the enhancement. These gaps have a tendency to trap moisture, and water in them and that is what causes the fungus. Not the nail itself though. The best way to avoid this condition - usually referred to as the 'greenies' is to have regular maintenance performed on your nails, such as bi-weekly fills. Also, if you notice any lifting starting to happen between fills, you really should go in and get them filled ASAP. Just leaving it as it is can be just as bad as nt getting fills at all. A case of the greenies is nothing serious. It is easily cured by exposure to open air. That means that to cure it, you would need to have the artificial nail(s) that are affected - removed for a while until they heal on their own.

You sure can get a nail fungus from wearing acrylic nails...it's not the nail or the products that cause it...it is caused from improper sanitation on the part of the person doing the nail application or from improper maintenance of the nails. Once they nails start to lift off they need to be completely removed and replaced. I was a licensed Nail Tech years ago and they whole time sanitation practices were drummed into us...you can get fungus problems even if your Nail Tech has dirty hands and does your nails!! That is why some salons have started using disposable tools and files etc...or better yet make sure the salon has an Autoclave...to sterilize it's equipment. Never go to have your nails done or even your hair for the matter in a salon that wont let you take a walk through inspection for cleanliness. When I am being lazy...I go buy a package of the Acrylic nail tips and file them to fit my entire nail bed, then I glue them on, cut them to a good length and polish them. This will last for several days and then they will come off...or you can brush your real nail bed with some baby oil or any kind of light oil..then glue the nail tip on over the oil and they nails will come off very easily. Usually the nail tips are big enough to cover your whole nail...if you only want them for an evening...use the oil under them and they will pop off very easily!! I started doing my nails this was years before I was ever a nail tech!! There is even a brand of nail glue that has a brush in it like nail polish and this is very easy to use and not as messy as the drop type bottle of glue.
