If my girlfriend is on the birth control pill, and takes it as directed every day at around the same time, is it still necessary for me to wear a condom? We were each others firsts so there's no risk of STDs involved. Just kinda new at it and need answers

Answer:
No matter if you only use one or both. Its always possible she could become pregnant, if she & yourself are both in good health. Be careful.......Plus 5 for your question.

Neither the pill, nor condoms are 100% effective at preventing pregnancy or the transmission of STD's. Doubling up is a good idea.

there is still a risk of STDs and even more likely STIs (sexually transmitted infections) which can be spread by other ways than just sex. you can spread gonorrhea and chlamydia (both pretty nasty) by innocent things like sharing towels. those arent the only ones either. there is also the factor of what if she is lying. virginity is a huge deal and she may be embarrassed to admit if you are not her first. also there are crazy girls who say they are on the pill but dont take it so that they will get pregnant on purpose. I'm not saying your girlfriend is a liar or anything but it is possible and i know you probably trust her a lot but is it worth it to you to end up with a disease for life or a child just becaue you trusted her? I have been with my bf for 6 months and I made him show me STD papers saying he was clean before i let him touch me without a condom. we still use them though even though im on the pill just in case the pill fails or i will admit however much i trust him what if he cheated and got something I dont want to get it too.

Oh my goodness, of course there is. You must always take responsibility for yourself, period. With all due respect to your girlfriend, you must not just accept everything you are told without question. The pill is not 100% effective for a start and this when it is taken absolutely correctly. It is not foolproof and it's effectiveness can be impaired by more than one thing (for example, being sick). As wonderful a person as she may be, she is still a human being, just like the rest of us and just as we make the odd mistake, so will she on occasion. It is a well known fact that the majority of women who take the pill, forget to take it from time to time, not intentionally maybe, but it gets forgotten. If you do not want to put yourself at risk of her falling pregnant, then it is just as much down to you as her. She may be on the pill, but this does not mean that she takes all the responsibility and you just let her get on with it. You have as much accountability as she does. Believe me, if you want to be able to enjoy one another then fear of pregnancy is a sure-fire passion killer.
