Why is there a tilde on my keyboard?

I'd like to buy a computer keyboard in Mexico, so it has more keys (like the n with the tilde, upside down questin mark, etc.) Does anyone know if that kind of keyboard will work right with any computer?

  • Answer:

Yes it will work with any computer (PC). However, you will have to set the PC up to recognise the Spanish layout. Go to Control Panel... Regional and Language Settings (XP - it could be different for Vista). Click on the Languages tab and click the Details button. Click the Add button and select Spanish (Mexico) from the list. Select Spanish (Mexico) as the default input language and click OK.

Here are some ways that you can make them accents using the alt codes on your keyboard→ http://tlt.psu.edu/suggestions/international/bylanguage/spanish.html

using the alt keys or charmap might save you more hassle than hunting down another keyboard
