How can I concentrate on reading?

How come I can focus & concentrate better, reading online, than reading a book or magazine? When I read online, I'm cool. But when I read a book or magazine, why do my OCD unwanted, intrusive thoughts start kicking in & disturbing me?

  • Answer:

I'm not a psychologist/psychiatrist, but perhaps you have ADD. A book doesn't stimulate the brain as much the internet does. Yet a magazine is packed full of advertisements that can overstimulate the brain. I have ADD/ADHD. My boyfriend HATES it when I get on the internet. But what he doesn't understand is that I go online to research, learn, etc. For some reason I am able to keep myself moderately occupied (but not hyper-focused, nor bored) due to the fact that my hands are kept moving (i.e. scrolling down as I'm reading), my brain is stimulated in several different areas (i.e. moving graphics as well as easy to access links). On a computer, one is able to look up definitions at his or her lesure, etc. Hope this helps!
