I'm running a Dell desktop computer, no frills, factory direct. Unsure about model. It has the usual "DVD/CD-RW Drive" but does that mean I can burn DVDs with it? I think not.

Answer:
You think correctly. You have what is commonly referred to as a "combo drive". It can read DVDs and Read or Write CDRs and CDRWs. A DVD burner or DVD-RW can do all of the above AND burn DVDs. That's what you would need. If you really want to burn DVDs just buy a drive, they are DIRT CHEAP. $25 and up for a DVD-RW drive.
