What are some pros and cons of being a physical therapist?

What are the pros and cons of being a massage therapist?

  • Answer:

Helping others to heal themselves, sharing with people new ideas about health and how to work on themselves, feeling good about your work, setting your own hours of work as they are usually very flexible. Many opportunities for giving your time to organizations and for charity. Usually calm, beautiful work conditions, quiet and serene. You often work on your own, quietly. Cons are you usually don't make a lot of money. It's often one of the 'luxuries' that people give up. If you aren't careful to 'refill' yourself by getting worked on yourself, you tend to get filled with the negatives from your clients. If you get stuck working in a spa setting, you can feel like you work very hard and too rushed and lose that good feeling towards clients and your career. Sometimes people will assume you're the 'other kind' of massage therapist, less therapeutic and more happy ending. So you have to explain a lot to some people. Everyone you meet will want you to work on them at parties or for free lol!!!

Perhaps the risk of clients "coming onto you" and harassing or pursuing you sexually? It is a very sensual job, after all.... And it's illegal to have relations with your clients, so even if they WEREN'T gross, you'd be in biiig trouble....

Pro: yur own hours, yur on location, or preks of wherever you work...like a spa, or ski resort, or season tickets. Plus maken people feel awsome, good work out. Con: Negitive energy, Gross people Pretty good loot. If you work in a salon u give up sum off the top for yur space or employer. I have a girlfreind who used to set up shop like 4-5 days aweek on the beach in Hawaii. So she obvesily got to keep all of it.

Pros: Having a client say how great they feel after a massage from you. Helping people is nice. Making decent money for hardly any hours of work. At least I do, after working my way up the comission ladder, I make with tips at a high end spa, $60.00 per hour or sometimes a little less. Not usual, but I happened to be at the right place. The quiet peaceful atmosphere works for a while, and feels great. Cons: The work, especially in a spa setting, of one massage right after the other can become very very very draining. It is hard work. In this setting it is easy to get injured ( I have), and get numb to how tired you are. I would not recommend getting stuck in a spa setting. I think it would work much better working for yourself where you can pace your appointments. But then you have to find clients. After some time if you do a lot of spa massage the quietness can start to isolate and actually make you sad. At least it has for me. I began to feel antisocial and depressed, and not stimulated or challenged. But that is me....not everyone.
