Answer:
Approach restaurants in your area to see if they have nights set aside where your organization gets 10% of the take for their sales. Something like Applebees. They usually will give you a slow night and it is up to you to advertise and get people to eat there during the hours allowed. This is usually the dinner hour from 5 to 9 PM. The more people that eat there during the allotted time the more money you raise for you organization.

Your fundraiser really depends on your organization. If you're an NPO you should be aiming for 1 fundraiser per month, and it's really great if you can experiment for a bit so that you can create a calendar of "signature events." Try a golf tournament, a gourmet desert tasting, a gourmet diner & auction, or anything that really reflects your organization. The United Cerebral Palsy association here has used a rubber duck for their mascot, and they organize a series of Rubber Ducky races every year. Because they are annual events they can generate some excellent prizes, donors and sponsors, and they have essentially branded the events. If it's a rubber ducky race, then you know that your money is going to support cerebral palsy. Whatever you choose, try to tie it to your organization. It can either be a gimick (like the rubber ducky race) or a reflection on the type of organization it is (like a candy fundraiser for Candy Stripers...).

My favorite fund raiser idea has been used quite successfully at our church: Supper night along with a "Name that Song" contest. You sell tickets to the night and use some of the money for prizes. We did only Grand Prize. I don't know how many volunteers you have in your group, but if they could provide the food for the supper or use the potluck scenario. So here is how it goes. Everyone comes dressed as a song - they could also have multi-songs. They bring a list of the songs they represent and that is given to the judges. Everyone then gets blank sheets of paper and they go around and write down what song(s) they think the person represents. Once all the sheets are turned in, the judges determine who the prize winner(s) are. It was so much fun (But may appeal to the 40+ generation)! 1 lady whose name was Cathy came wearing 'Blue Suede Shoes', a 'Blue Velvet' skirt,(Also song could be 'Blue Skirt Waltz') and finally a clown pin for 'Cathy's Clown. A man brought the paper tube that florists use to put bouquets in for 'You Don't Bring Me Flowers'. I came with a paper sun taped to my shoulder for 'Sunshine on my Shoulder' and carried 7 silk daisies, each with a tag for a day of the week. for 'Daisy a Day'. I don't think it requires a huge amount of organizational work - IF you have a venue for the supper and people willing to bring a potluck dish. Every time I tell anyone, this idea, they think it is great. Gives everyone a chance to be creative and also show their knowledge (good for bragging rights).

Chinese auction, or a candy sale, lot of work! Buy a night on the town, dinner, hotel, etc, raffle that. When I was President of our PTA that worked, big time. Or of you live near an arena, buy tickets for a popular singer, etc. That always pays off nicely too. I have found that it is much easier to do those type fundraisers. They are less work and the pay off is big. There is no stopping the different things you could raffle, from bycicles to trips, or raffle smaller items, like bakery items, people always donate a cake. All different stores will donate items for a raffle, it's more work, I've done it. You have to have your hate in hand, but it works:)
