How do I set up the Internet on my Vista?

I have 3 laptop computers. 2 vista and 1 xp. I use a pc card to connect to the internet on 1 of the vistas. Can I set up the other 2 laptops to connect to the internet via the PC card?

  • Answer:

If you can run Vista on those 2 laptops, then they probably at least have built in NICs (network interface cards). I'm betting the PC Card is wireless. So yes, you can use ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) on the computer with the PC Card, let's say the XP machine, and then network the other machines via their NICs to share the internet connection with the XP machine. Here's a how-to for ya! http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/setup/adhoc.mspx

Only it you take the card out and put it in the other notebooks. The only way to share the internet connection from one notebook to the others is if you have another PC Card connected to a PC Card in the other system. For all of them to get on the internet at once you will need a router with a hub built in and a network card for each of the notebooks.
