How does instant message work?

My girlfriend and I primarily talk over instant message. I hate it, and I feel like I'm in an internet relationship. She says work is the reason she hates being on the phone. How should I feel/go about this?

  • Answer:

There are plenty of jobs in this world where the worker can't get to a phone OR the internet and plenty where you can't take your cell phone on the shop floor. If you get to talk at all during work hours, you sound pretty well loved up and lucky. Count your blessings.

I'm with you, I once dated a guy who only sent text messages and never called.. it drove me crazy my advice (which may be a bit harsh) stop returning her instant messages; after you tell her you prefer to talk on the phone of course (even if it's only for a few minutes) I talk on the phone all day at work too, but if I was crazy about my boyfriend I would still want to talk to him everyday.. nothing like hearing the voice of the person you love or like

Stop complaining. Maybe you two should try seeing each other in person or something if it bothers you that much. If you don't like instant messaging and she doesn't like the phone, in person is probably the way to go. If it makes you feel any better, my boyfriend and I don't talk on the phone. We instant message each other instead. I'm not allowed to talk to guys on the phone, though, so it's not really my fault.

You could always set up a convenient time for both of you to converse on the phone or meet in person-sometimes this makes for a better relationship. Let her know how you feel.
