When I was in school, we had to hit the ground running the day after Labor Day. Now they don't start school until a week after the holiday and for the first week they only have half-days. Why is it like this now? Are kids so psychologically delicate?

Answer:
My kids started with full days 1 1/2 weeks before Labor Day. They have ALWAYS started before Labor Day! We did have half days in August at times when it was going to be dangerously hot. However, they put A/C in a couple of years ago and now they only miss school for excessive snow and ice! We live in MO so we can have extremes of weather one way or another.
