I am new to quilting and I am fixing to make a quilt of sunbonnet sue. And the directions tell me to have 20 fat quarters. Why? Is it to trace the applique on? I don't know

Fat quarters is the name of the size of the fabric you need. It is a way of cutting the fabric to size. In addition to cutting by the yard, Fat Quarters are cut by the Quarter yard.
