What are some mistakes to avoid in an interview?

I was asked in a job interview if i make mistakes. i answered " i dont make mistakes". it just came out of my mouth without thinking. maybe b/c i was nervous. obviously everybody make mistakes. is this a bad answer? what would the interviewer think of me?

  • Answer:

horrible answer - it's obviously untrue - the interviewer either thinks you're lying or you think he/she is stupid correct answer: Sure I make mistakes, but I err on the side of caution and I rarely make the same mistake twice. I don't get down on my mistakes. I use them as a teachable event, learn and move on. I also take my lumps when I need to and don't mind eating crow if the mistake is customer facing. Anyone that tells you they don't isn't someone I would want to work with.

It sounds a little arrogant, but it would depend on the interviewer and how seriously they took your answer. It would also depend on the attitude you put across - the way you spoke, the way you sat, and so on. The interviewer would be looking at all these things. He/she may have also picked up your nervous state and knew you were trying your best to show them you were wanting the job. I hope you get it. Good luck!

Yeah, that's not a very good answer. They will probably think you are arrogant, lying, or irresponsible with admitting your errors. Yeah... the expression, 'think before you speak' should definitely be used during interviews.
