What is the difference between a Fender American Strat and a Fender American Special Strat?

What's the difference between a "Fender Squire Strat", and just a regular "Fender Strat"? Is Strat short for Stratocaster? Why is a Fender Squier Strat cheaper than just a Fender Strat?

  yes strat is short for stratocaster. A SQUIRE strat is basically a cheapie version of a FENDER strat,the biggest difference is of course the quality and how long itll last you,soundwise unless you have a great amp it wont sound too great,unless of couse you like it.youre better off spending the extra hundred on an official fender american or mexican strat,i think the cheapest one will run you about $400.00 and comes in different configurations,a regular strat,a fat strat which basically replaces the bridge pickup with a humbucker,and one with double humbuckers.if you are running low on cash you can get away with using a SQUIER strat which many beginners use,as long as the intonation or tuning is decent and as long as the electronics are well soldered and everything is nicely screwed and working well,but its well worth the investment of getting an official strat which will play,sound,look better and inspire you to play even more so.well there you have it.good luck and shred on
