What to do on Christmas Eve in Munich?

Did your parents let you open your Christmas gifts on Christmas Eve or on Christmas day in my home we opened all the Christmas gifts on christmas eve?

  • Answer:

when I was a kid it depended on what house we went to... at my Aunt's we opened them on Christmas eve after midnight mass... at my grandparent's we opened them on Christmas morning. these days I open them on Christmas eve after we drive around looking at the lights.

My dad would let me open what he got me while the mother and the siblings were at midnight mass :)

We had to wait for Santa, Christmas day.

Only on Christmas Day. They don't care either way now.:-)

No I opened all my presents on Christmas day as a child. My children get to open their presents on Christmas eve because I remember all those sleepless nights.

Actually, as funny as this is, my family does that exact same thing, as has done so since I was born, or at least I think that is the case. My brother gets a raw deal though, since his b-day is the 23rd. :)

Every year my family used to let me and my sister open one small present under the tree. Then on Christmas morning we would open the rest.

We got to go through all our presents and pick one. That one we opened on Xmas eve, after our nightly baths, about an hour before bedtime. The rest waited until everyone was awake (after 8 am), and we opened them together, with the youngest getting to hand everyone their gifts. We also never put the presents out until Xmas eve. They resided in my parent's closet. That was part of the fun. (It also kept the family pets from opening them in advance)

Now only did we have to wait till Christmas day.....we had to wait until: 1. The older siblings got home from a later Mass. Mom took my younger sister and I in the morning......when it was still dark out. 2. After everyone had breakfast. My Dad is a tyrant and insists we eat first, because that's what HE wants. 3. After my Mom finished the breakfast dishes. We weren't even allowed to touch the presents.....shake them to guess what was inside, etc. So.......not only did I have many sleepless nights on Christmas eve, I had a Christmas morning full of torture.
