Who do you call if somebody you're living with dies? (This hasn't happened to me - I'm doing research for a story) How long does it take for them to arrive? How long does it take for them to pick up the body and clean it up? What is their process?

You call 9-1-1. They will do an examination and take the person to the hospital, where the person might be declared dead. If an autopsy must be held to determine the cause of death, it could take over a week to get the body back. In the meantime, you make arrangements for funeral parlour/burial, etc.

Coroner, depends on where you live, coroner calls funeral home if you have made prior arrangements, Funeral home dispatches some one as son as they have some one free, depends on what kind of funeral preparations you have selected.

well i takes aprox like a week? it all dependz the case of the death...like my cousin it happened on a wednesday, we received the body on friday and we burried him on saturday..

All depends on the way the person dies: If the person is sick and knows they are dieing and wishes to do so at home, you can use the services of Hospice who will come out and help you set ever thing up from medical equipment you need to who needs to be contacted when they pass, so when it happens you just call them(hospice worker who comes at once to your home) she/he makes all the calls helps prepare the body, sits with you etc. No police show up only the funeral Home that you choose comes to gently take person with them, you then goes next day or so and talk with them to make arrangement for what ever services for chapel & cemetery. natural death about a week unless your wanting body to be cremated and this can take alittle longer some times. person who commits suicide whole different story; police first call and you get lots of them, lots of questions for you about them, takes long time before coroner which is often one of the funeral home directors shows up and pronounces, then they finally leave, if your luck TIP is called in and nice people show up to help deal with the trauma. Next few days again trip to funeral Home to make all the arrangements and try to remember what to put in the paper about your loved one this can take 10days to 2 weeks as they had to test body before they would release then if your cremating even longer You know most funeral Homes will talk to you if you stop by, they are pretty friendly, so are most cemetery's and call your local hospice also I think they could be a big source of information for you.

In the USA, if they die in an accident or unexpectedly, 911. Sick at home, 911 and their doctor. Emergency usually takes 10 minutest to an hour depending on where you are. They will take the body with them in a black bag. If you are responsible, they will take you away in manacles. Otherwise, they will just take pertinent info and you can sit down and have a drink.
