I have a hair dryer that has a little switch that says 'ions on/off'. i am in chemistry, so i know what ions are from that standpoint. what ions are these, how do they work, and what do they have to do with drying hair?

Answer:
Ordinary hair dryers continually shoot positively charged ions. These ions (in theory) contribute to a tired feeling, and can trigger depressed-type response. Some hair dryers now have found a way to shoot negative ions, which (in theory) can make one more energetic.
