Did i blow my speaker?

If I use a receiver that is rated at 130 watts per channel and the speaker is rated to handle 50 watts is it going to blow the speaker

  • Answer:

No, not unless you turn the volume up extremely high. I once did a test to see if a pair of 30 watt speakers could handle power output from a Receiver that put out 65 watts, Yes I did blow them out, but only after playing them at such a high volume level that it was extremely uncomfortable to listen to them. You may not get as much volume out of speakers that can handle lower wattage and thus you will need to increase the volume level on the receiver, but not to such an extreme level that you will blow them out.
