Microsoft word- How do I know if it's safe to download from a certain site? gr8downloads.us claims I can download microsoft word from their site for free but how do I know it's safe and that I won't be downloading a trojan, malware, spyware, etc?

MS word is not free, unless it's pirated. Anyone who offers liscensed software for free is not your friend. I wouldn't trust it. You probably would be downloading some sort of malware that will cause you a lot of heartache and a big headache trying to get rid of it. "If it sounds too good to be true. . .it probably is!"

Yeah, I can't believe any free download for Office is safe. If you really want a free office package, go for http://www.openoffice.org - only problem is you'd have to learn to use it

Whenever you get the opportunity to download for free a commercial program that should cost money you run the risk of downloading some sort of malware along with it, so I wouldn't take the chance. A far safer option would be to download Open Office, which is genuinely free, free of viruses and compatible with MS Office. http://www.openoffice.org/

Generally, things don't come for free. Think of it from their point of view; what do they get from having this site up and running? I would recommend downloading an extension to firefox called "WOT", it gives a rating to most popular sites, then color codes the rating. Green for good, Yellow/orange for a potential trouble, Red for certain trouble and gray for un-rated sites. That particular site is gray, so I wouldn't trust it.
