Do you believe that praying to get something or make something happen (cure grandma, get that job, bring world peace etc) works? If so, why, given that all research shows that it doesn't?

Answer:
I apologize for typing a new answer, but I tried commmenting twice and it did not go through... I misinterpreted your question to meaning personal prayer... But now that I re-read your question I see that "Cure Grandma" was on your list of examples... I read your two links also, and I see the information, and agree with the results... But I also notice one missing variable in the test... The patient's beliefs... Let us look at it two ways... a) If the patient does not believe in prayer, then what does it matter that people pray for him? Really, it would seem that it would have no effect because the guy does not believe in it... (Think of it as an anti-placebo) 2) Even if the guy did believe in the power of prayer, then what does it matter that 1,000s of complete strangers are praying for him? When I am sick I could care less how many people are "praying" for me, what matters are my loved ones, what are they doing? Are they here to comfort me, "pray" with me, etc... (It would either that or the performance anxiety that was mentioned in the article... Really, would you want to be the guy o prove that prayer does not work if you believe in it... There's pressure...) Thanks for the points earlier Mr. 23 (can I call you 23? or do you prefer skidoo?)... I have one more question though... How do you give out more points? It still only lets me give out 1...

Whether you believe in a deity or not... I beleive that there is something to the power of positive thinking... And really that is what prayer is... It can help put a person at ease... "Knowing" in their heart that there is someone out there greater than their problem that is willing to listen and help... So I say yes, I do believe in it... Because of the comfort it can bring me... I recognize that things do not always go as we have planned, or wanted, but for a time, I was given hope... A positive spark, and that does go a long way...

Now look who is trying to prove a negative. It is impossible for you to prove that those things didn't happen.
