Why Does My Usb Drive Show 0 Bytes?

I got a WD120GB external USB drive, i was fine but when I re-installed New XP. Since then my USB hard drive stop working,. it does pop-up on the icon tray and i could find it on Device manager. BUT the drive doesn't show up on "My Computer".. Help?

  • Answer:

go to device manager and see if there are any yellow? if so you are missing drivers, probably in the Usb area and if so this could be why it does not see the WD120 as no driver to access it. if there are no drivers I can offer a free program that should help find & download them if there are no yellow? then I would unplug WD120 and wait 30-60 sec and then try again but make sure you put it back in same USB that you original did when you first installed the WD120 to system as some devices like to go back to same USB. NEED TO FIND YOUR DRIVERS? Go http://www.radarsync.com/ this software will find them and update them for you all for free, just click on the red download button (start free download free version) 1.18 MB is the size of file just choose where you would like to save it too. you may also need Microsoft NET Framework 2.0 as some PC need this file too just google for it.

Open Control Panel, click on Administrative Tools and then Computer Management. From there, choose Storage and then Disk Management. Under there you should see a list of all drives installed on your computer. The USB drive may either not have a drive letter assigned to it (causing it to not show up from My Computer for example), or may not be listed. If it isn't listed, simply plug it in; if it still doesn't show up, right-click on the drive from this screen then click "Change drive letter..." and follow the steps to assign it a drive letter. After you do this the drive should be visible as normal.

if you put a fresh version of XP on, make sure you have at least service pack 2 in place - that may be all that is needed.
