What are some good Christmas gifts for friends?

I have several friends with whom we usually exchange gifts with at Christmas...this year I wanted to donate to local food pantry in their name instead. Do I send a card telling them this or what?

    First--I think it would be nice of you to send your friends a card explaining what you are doing. As an added bonus you might like to do a little something different in each card. Type out some of your favorite Christmas Recipes on a sheet of paper; then have the sheet copyed for how many cards you plan to send out. Then fold the recipe sheet and fold again so it fits inside the card. Some like the idea while some think its if-y / But I feel the person giving the gift Rules. take care

Send them a card with something like this: Having had another grateful year with you and the privilege of being able to call you friend ... in your honor, I have donated [ ] to [ ] charity. I think it is a lovelely gesture, but you should perhaps mention your intentions before-hand. Who knows, maybe your Xmas list people will spread the word, and you can even start donation/volunteerism as a yearly "gift" in your group.
