I found a very new dead baby bunny. I did not know my fem was pregnant. I do not know if there are other babies but how did this one end up in the middle of my yard? Mom lives free in the yard. Would she give birth in the cold open? She cannot move it?

Yes there is a male. So either answer makes sense. I could only think that she had it there but it seems she would have instinct to go to her den. We do have cats in the neighborhood, never bother the adults but babies may be different. It was not damaged at all though it seems. Thanks! I am just curious why it was just there in the open.

She would normally have made a nest somewhere, either digging a little hollow or finding a hole and lining it with her fur. Rabbits can bite and possibly fling but they can't carry their young like a cat. Most does wouldn't do that though a buck would, as they often will eat and even eat a young kit. Do you have other rabbits there or possibly a cat living around the area?

Do you also have a male that is free in the yard? A male rabbit will usually kill the offspring. This could be why it is dead and also how it ended up in the middle of the yard. Females will usually pull fur for a nest when they a pregnant and try to have the babies there. Look for that, just in case. If it is the first time, she may have also been confused by what was happening and not gotten back to the nest in time. She may not have been able to move it or it may have been born dead.
