Does anyone know of a year abroad program?

Does anyone know what the IB (International Baccalaureate) program is good for? I'll be starting it next year.

  • Answer:

i did IB. i think it gave me the invaluable skill called "IB B.S." which allows me to effectively analyze any book, short story, or poem, and then convince people i'm right. you also do this thing called theory of knowledge, which is largely pointless, but often involves fun field trips. you also write extra essays and do extra reading during the summer months. there's no doubt that the program can help your writing skills, and it looks good on a transcript. AP classes, however, are just as useful and perhaps even more difficult than IB classes. what i really got out of the program was that by the time i hit college, i had earned enough credits to qualify as a sophomore, and i was not dual enrolled. i don't think IB was a waste of time. it was actually fun, it looks good on your transcript, and the quality of classes and teachers is often better than in classes that are only AP. if you can, in two years time, take AP/IB classes, you will be really well off for college.

Do you have a choice? Because I wouldn't recommend it. It's like a private school with 10 times the stress. It isn't necessarily better, though it tends to have better structure. Get ready to lose the social life and up the caffeine. If you're good at planning and studying, you'll probably do fine though. Good luck :) http://www.geocities.com/calcfreak901/ib.html
