Why won't Xbox read brand new game?

If I buy a DVD remote for the original Xbox will it read CD-RW's, CD-R's, and DVD-RW's? Also my xbox will freeze up and give me an error saying the disc your using maybe dirty or damaged when im playing a brand new madden 09 game, do i throw it away?

  Hello aneale, The original Xbox should be able to read most CD-RWs and CD-Rs without the need for a DVD remote. I cannot speak for DVD-RWs, although if memory serves me correctly I did not think they worked with the original Xbox. Though this may be incorrect. As for the dirty/damaged disc. I would try cleaning the disc service carefully and check for any scratches. If it still does not work after cleaning (and no scratches found) this problem is usually traced to a faulty disc reader, which would likely have to be replaced in order to work.
