How do you cure homesickness?

Answer:
By going home. There are some things that can help you cope until you can get back home for a visit. Here are some things that worked for me. 1.Talking on the phone to friends and family back home... 2.emails (not forwarded junk) that you can honestly say "this is perfect for you or this made me think of you...sending pictures is good too...especially of places you want them to see or they can send you pics of places you miss. I got a pic Ted Drews. 3.sending trinkets in the mail...before I moved away, I used to take my little neice to McD's all the time for Happy Meals. When I was away, I'd go get Happy Meals for myself and send her the toys. She still has them ALL...and she's 29 now! I would send friends sand and small shells from the beach to entice them to come see me. I've sent matchbook covers or clean napkins from places that made me think of them with a note saying, "we've gotta go!" or "you've gotta see this place!" Oh, i've sent tacky souveniers too! I sent a giant inflatible alligator once that had to be blown up so they could see how big the gator was that was in the apartment swimming pool. 4. ask them to send you things...I got a stinky White Castle once with a note that said "Smell familiar?" 5.Synchronize activities. I have made plans with a friend for each of us to go watch the same movie at as close to the same time as we can find...then call each other right afterwards to talk about it...we have even rented the same movie at home and synchronized watching it together...obviously, we have unlimited long distance! We've also gone to art exhibits and talked on the phone about what we were seeing...You'll just have to think of what you use to do with who and how can you make this work for you. 6. having plans to go back for a visit, just knowing when you are going back can help sometimes...and make real plans...know what you want to do with whom...make sure they are aware of the plans so you can share the anticipation and be available (you don't want to leave disappointed) 7. talk about being homesick to your friends...tell them what you miss... 8. plan to call during a gathering of family or friends, party or happy hour and have them pass the phone around so you can feel like part of the gang. 9. subscribe to a magazine or newspaper that reminds you of back home...I got St. Louis magazine for several years after I moved away 10. and sometimes, I just had to cry...there was just no way around it. Hope this is helpful.
