What is artwork made of?

If anyone out there has ever made their own gauged earrings, can you tell me what materials you used, and if i use wood can i use some sort of clear coat to seal in the artwork? what type of clear coat would me safe on skin?

  • Answer:

i wish someone who knew what "gauged" earrings meant could answer this question, or would the acrylic clear coat be safe for long periods of direct skin contact? i have not been able to find an answer to this question... i make my plugs and rings out of fimo, but its terrible for your skin, although all my friends get away with it, my 1" ears are back down to less than half an inch because they reacted very badly with the fimo... but could coating it before wear prevent the chemicals from leaking into the skin?

When you say gauged earrings I'm assuming you mean earwires? For earwires, sterling silver wire, round, half hard, in 22 gauge works well. As far as using wood in your design, you can seal it with any type of clear acrylic spray, matte or gloss. Apply several light coats. Let it dry well and you're all set.
