I just ordered a notebook PC. What do the GB on a hard drive do? This one has 150 GB and 2048 MB of RAM. I'm totally computer illiterate! Can you translate for me what the 150 GB of RAM is for? Are 150 GB enough? Thanks so much!

Answer:
That's a very powerful notebook and should serve you well. Might be a bit of a power hog so be very mindful of the battery and follow the mfrs instructions for recharging to the letter for best service life. Enjoy!

150 GB means 150 gigabytes. (One GB = 1000 MB.) That number represents the storage capacity of the hard disk drive inside your new computer. All the software that runs your computer (Windows or another operating system (OS), plus programs, files, pictures, music, etc. 150 GB sounds like plenty of space. 2048 MB of RAM = 2.048 GB of RAM, just to put it in a familiar perspective. RAM is memory, which your computer needs to run. Theoretically, the more RAM in your computer, the faster your OS opens and closes programs and files. 2.048GB is a healthy amount of RAM, and may very well be all the RAM your laptop can hold.

150 gigabytes of hard drive for storing data on is quite good but in a few years time with programs hogging more and more space it will be too small, but you can buy external hard drives to take up the slack. 2 gig of ram (or 2048) is not bad but if you use it for gaming it would be advisable to by larger ram chips :o)

Yes thats plenty. RAM is Random Access Memory, the computers processor uses it. The more you have the faster your computer will be. 150 GB is the storage space on your computer, where your files will be put. Depending on what you do, that should be enough too. Unless you have to store lots of data (more than just the typical word documents and music and suchlike.) 1 GB is about 300 average sized typed documents, or about 250 songs.

I'm not an expert, but I think you're getting a good computer. Yours sounds about like what I've got, and mine is a year old. I bought a Dell and love it. A computer has 2 kinds of memory: RAM is the memory that runs programs and ROM stores stuff. 2048 MB of RAM that you've got is very good, and so is the 150GB of ROM.
