How can I improve my school work?

I am an excellent worker in the workplace but in school i am not. Besides earning money why is this? Is there anything i can do to improve my commitment to school work in college?

  in the workplace, you get pretty much instant gratification: your paycheck. most jobs can become very routine and not challenge you brain with things you have to struggle to learn. in college, there's no instant gratification. you may work hours on a homework, and may or may not get all the answers, but you won't know until it's graded. and you won't know if the work paid off until you take a test. and none of it will matter until you graduate and get a good job. plus, it's hard and frustrating. if you want to do better is school, try looking at it this way: your instant gratification is learning. you learn the material now and you don't have to learn it later. you understand it now and you don't have to stress out about it later. plus, when you graduate, you will have confidence in your abilities to do what you were hired to do. in the workplace, you can't b.s. your way through the work, and an 80% on an assignment won't cut it. you probably also need to develop better study skills. i find that studying in 1/2 hour blocks works well - i study a bit, then take a short break. this keeps my brain from totally tuning out. finally, you just have to want to turn in good assignments. i reached a point where i was tired of turning crap into my professors, because it was embarrassing. i stopped b.s.ing my way through homework because it didn't help me at all. in the end - this is your time and your money. you don't hurt the professors by not doing your best, you only hurt yourself. do the assignments now, and do them well, so you can get it over and done with. if not, you will just have to make it up later.
