When does Direct TV bill you?

Why do tenants abuse the utilities when you include them in the rent and get mad when you have to raise rent because of the abuse? Oil heat is cranked and they are still running space heaters, three TV's going with 2 people, water bill is outrageous ugh

    They have no sense of what kind of bills they're running up, since they don't see the bills. I have the same problem with my rental property. I haven't raised the rent yet, but I've thought about it. I'm not sure what the solution is. Maybe once year give them a list of what you paid for their utilities, the insurance on the building, etc. and show them how little of the rent they pay you is money you get to keep as profit (if there IS any!). I doubt if that would make a difference in their habits, though.

The assumption is that the rent already covers the utilities no matter how outrageous. A lot of people figure they're just getting their moneys worth.
