How can I use the internet on one network (ethernet at router) connection and connect to a another PC on another (IEE1394 or FireWire) without using the slower connection established at the router?

Answer:
Fire wire is generally to slow to use for anything but elementary connection sharing. Also the frame format of firewire is different from Ethernet which requires an additional encapsulation step when using it for networking. My solution would be to buy a 13$ (us) gig switch and connect the machines.
