What to put on a open cut?

My dog was poisoned by a farmer who put out bait chickens to kill foxes,these chickens were killed and injected with poison,cut open and left in a field.my dog started to eat one,and now is unconsious and paralysed.what action can i take against this man?

    You have the right to keep your dog at home, like you should have done in the first place. I know it seems harsh, but that farm is the farmer's livelihood. It isn't a playtoy. How would you react if someone turned an animal loose in your workplace that caused thousands of dollars of damage and ended up with you going bankrupt? That is what neighborhood dogs frequently do to farmers. I know you think your dog is just a pet and wouldn't do such a thing, trust me, they do. The hunting instinct is never far below the surface. Pet dogs will run cattle and run the weight right off of them so that the farmer has no profit from them. They'll harry dairy cattle until they don't produce as much milk. They kill chickens, and a dead chicken is worth nothing. The profit margin for farming is very low and it doesn't take much to drive a farmer out of business. I hate it that this happened to your dog, but I don't blame the farmer at all. Your dog was trespassing and endangering his livelihood just by being there. Invest in a dog proof fence and keep your animals home.

You left out a crucial fact. When you say "left in a field," whose field are you talking about? If it is the farmer's land, then the only way your dog could have been poisoned is by trespassing. That would make you 100% liable.

Standard practice, I'm afraid. However, there are rules for making sure children and pets cannot reach the poison. He might be liable for something, but ethically, you are liable for keeping your animals off of his land and under your control at all times. I am sorry that your pet is hurt. I hope he recovers. But you need to understand that people will protect their animals and property. If you love your pet, keep it in your yard by whatever means you can.

None, your dog was loose, I am assuming he did not put these poisoned chickens on your property. If not, there isn't a thing you can do or anyone you can blame but yourself. +4

Where I live if a dog is loose even on the road in a farming area then anyone has a legitimate right to shoot it on sight, and I live In New Zealand where guns arent common. This is how serious it is considered. Never forget that your 'pet' is a killing machine - YOU are completely liable for the costs and emotion pain you have suffered as a result of not restraining your animal. Sorry!

i dont think he asked any of you if he was to blame. i'm sure this guy feels bad enough as it is. unfortunately, there isn't a whole lot you can do that is going to be worth the effort, other than staying on good terms with your neighbor, regardless of this incident. maybe even try let this guy know that no ones really to blame, buy him a beer, and hate him in silence untill you get over it. if i was you i'd be pissed off too, and would've done something stupid by now, i'm sure. but i think that would be trying. i hope you find what you need. i'm soory bout your dog. to all you critics and (i'm sure) perfect parents keep up the good work. trash on someone everydayyay

In Texas, if your dog is on someone elses property, you have no rights. I feel bad for you, but you should control your dog better.
