I'm21Am I too old to start snowboarding? My sister and brother (who ski) have thier doubts about my success saying it is too hard. Is it OK that I start anyway and be very sucky while watching young kids go like the wind? That hurts my self esteem. help:(

You are hardly too old at 21 to take up the sport of snowboarding. I know a couple of old farts that started in the late 40's with great success. Falling down is part of the process. Don't get discouraged.

I don't know if this helps but I didn't start skiing until I was 22. It took me years to make decent turns. The secret to learning to ski or snowboard is to spend a week (or two) at a snow resort where you can take daily lessons and practice every day. If you can afford the experience, check with your local ski shops for a resort with a good reputation for teaching...and go. The investment will bring you a lifetime of enjoyment. I'm now 72 and still love to ski.

Never too old. Not the same comparison but I started bowling for fun at 30, by 34 I owned my own pro shop, was giving lessons and was a PBA member. Started golf at 40 and at 42 was shooting par or better on some of the toughest courses in the northeast. Practice, dedication and the ability to care less about making a fool of yourself at first is key. In bowling I used to ask for lanes next to the handicapped leagues or the mentally challenged groups just to learn how to focus, learned how to deal with distractions and do it with a smile. The greatest challenge is your will to succeed.

I know some people in their 60s who have started snowboarding. Age is no excuse
