Where can I find factory jobs?

How do you feel about Hershey chocolate moving their factory to Mexico? Is anyone sick of our jobs being sent to another country when people here are dieing from no job and can't find one?

  • Answer:

I've been boycotting Hershey products since they closed a local factory a little over a year ago. They put many people out of work here. The factory had been in production for over 70 years.

What do you expect? Rather than worrying about unskilled, medium-wage rust belt jobs flowing to foreign countries, we should be worried about educating and preparing our workers to survive in a climate where capital flows freely over borders, knowing that there's probably little we can do about it except adapt. And if we adapt properly, we'll be better off anyway. Failure to do that is why places like Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Upstate New York have gone from far and away amongst the most well-off places on the planet to looking like glorified Appalachia.

Cheap labor plain and simple and Hershey's chocolate doesn't want to pay out.

I think Pennsylvania should rename the town and erase Hershey from the map. That would send a very clear message. I am disgusted.

I never really liked Hershey chocolate anyway. Except when I was camping to use for s'mores or the kisses when I made peanut butter blossoms. I don't waste money on chocolate anymore. The few bucks I have goes to vodka... and Internet access. I keep hearing about these places that were once thought of as solidly American going elsewhere- Coca-Cola, Budweiser, Coach, the list goes on and on. The American consumer says they will buy only American then goes to Wal-Mart to buy cheap trinkets made in China. If the socks on your feet were made in Indonesia, your watch in Switzerland, etc. please think before making statements about being pro-American workers. The truth is that we were a spoiled nation for a long, long time and in a global world that isn't going to jive. We need to adapt... and education is key. By being informed collectively as a people we can make better decisions in terms of what we buy. And we can get Washington D.C. to foster more pro-middle class trade deals. If we sit back, expecting everything while ignoring what's really going on... taking things at face value... well... I think you know what to expect.
