How do you handle a boss that plays favorites, and his favorite doesn't know what she's doing half the time?

That was the situation at my last job. The girl next to me would talk bad about the boss behind her back and roll her eyes when she saw her coming. The moment the boss walked in the room, she was all smiles and greeted her with a big hello. The girl was constantly late and took none stop personal phone calls while I worked hard all day, came in on time and picked up the slack on the phones, while she was busy goofing off. When I complained or brought it up, I was seen as causing problems and not being happy in my personal life. They even ambushed me with a meeting to discuss why I was so unhappy at home, because they were concerned about me. My only source of unhappiness was a boss that was an inconsiderate idiot and two-faced, lazy, gossipy co-workers. I ended up quiting because I was so miserable working with and for them. Later I found out that the boss and the girl have been promoted. Figures. My advice to you would be to just try to make yourself shine by doing your absolute best all the time. Complaining will only bring negative attention to yourself, possibly bringing your boss and the other employee even closer. Sooner or later, you should be rewarded for your hard work, but if things don't improve, I'd let it slip out that you're looking for a new job. It might wake your boss up to what a good employee you are or you may find a job that you like better. Good luck. I know this can be a miserable situation. Hope things work out for you soon.

man thats exactly whats going on in my department, every day,, the way I see it, I guess is a Black thing.... No offense but is the truth as far as in my case I know it is,,, she gets away with everything.. like coming in late almost every day, extra breaks,, and chil on personnal calls, while everyone else is working,, oh yeah and vacations always gets approved nomatter what.. so how would you feel???? you feeling me??
