How much feed should you feed a minuature horse? He can get out in the yard and pick, but as you all ready know the grass isn't growing.I'm afraid of over feeding or under feeding.

I would just feed him some high quality grass hay. Start out with a half a flake in the morning. If he finishes it by night, he can have one more half flake. Don't give him more than that unless you see he is dropping weight. If he gets fat, drop him to just a half flake per day. Supplement with a mineral block. Don't feed a rich hay, like alfalfa, and dont feed grain or pellets w/o talking to a vet. Mini's are very easy to founder, and you can kill him if you feed him too much of anything, or the wrong things. Watch in the spring he has very limited time on the grass. Most mini's I know are kept on dirt paddocks, so that their grazing is controlled. If he eats too much grass he will founder also. Good luck, and have fun with your Mini!!! They are sooooo cute :)
