Do positive stereotypes exist?

Is it possible to believe in stereotypes and not be racist? I understand that stereotypes are never true for everyone, but they do exist for a reason. Most didn't just appear out of thin air.

  • Answer:

Absolutely. The key is to be open-minded, and to be able to change the way you look at a person when you have new info. Sure, he may be the nelliest, swishiest, most stereotypical homo, and if you react to him like that, all is good. When you get more info, and discover he is a steelworker or something, the defining moment about you is if you can recognize how he breaks the stereotypes too. The same goes for any other stereotyped group.
