Fake and real Rolex, how does one tell between a good fake and real?

How can you tell a fake ROLEX, from a real one?

  • Answer:

Please take this answer on board. I have been a Rolex mechanic for many years now and know them from back to bottom, err, no! aha, yes, front. There are three ways to tell one from the other. 1st. Dropping both from a very high building, rushing down the stairs and out onto the footpath, you should see them land. The fake will land first coz it's full of bad stuff and heavier. 2nd. Throw them both into a cement mixer, this is not a good test as usually neither watch can be found before being poured onto a floor or something. They say watches have been heard hundreds of years later ticking away under the floor of a big shop. Or something. 3rd. Hit them both with a large hammer, sweep all the pieces together and search through them. If you find a tiny spring which winds from right to left and can find where it came from, you will know the true Rolex. We do do other brands.

Look first at the hands of the watch. A Rolex's hands move smoothly and continuously. They do not "tick" or skip. Look at the back of the watch. There is a code, and it is not a "sticker". It is holographic and cannot be pulled off. You can read the code from any angle. A Rolex comes in a case that is itself worth several hundred dollars.

Rolex began micro-etching their coronet symbol into the crystal just below the 6 o’clock position. The mark is so small, it is often difficult to see with the naked eye, but can be identified under magnification. The detail is so precise that counterfeit models often cannot replicate the logo accurately. Also, check the hologram sticker to see if it changes at different angles or not. Cheap fakes will not change.

In my experience overseas while I was in the Navy, if the "Rolex" cost $10 or was sold by a guy who carried his entire inventory of Rolex watches around inside a trench coat, then it was not likely to be a genuine Rolex.
