Is there a Rca to VGA cord?

I have a dell windows xp home edition computer and I am trying to use a tv for the monitor. Can I use the VGA port for the computer monitor or do i have to buy a new video card? Im going to buy a vga to rca cord.Should it work?

  • Answer:

No. First of all, there is no such thing as a VGA to RCA cord. The signal in a VGA cable is digital whereas in an RCA it's analog. Also, RCA sucks and doesn't handle anywhere near as much video bandwidth as VGA. If your TV doesn't have a component, VGA, DVI, or HDMI input it's not worth it as the picture on the TV is going to look like shit. Older TVs (anything not 420p or 720p) have the equivalent of a 400x300 display. The LOWEST standard for computers is 640x480 (when you boot into safe mode and go "eveything is all big and looks like crap wtf", that resolution). Back in the day I was all excited that my new Viper V330 (Riva 128 4tw baybe) had a video coax out and ran it into my TV. Looked like ASS. Everything on it was blurry and huge even at the highest resolution it could handle. So if it's an old TV, don't bother. Of course if you have a newer TV with component, HDMI, DVI, or VGA ports, you can try plugging into them with your computer. I had the pleasure of staying with a friend who had a 41in 1080p Samsung plasma TV last summer and playing games or watching downloaded movies/TV on that in full resolution was awesome. New TVs are pretty much the same as computer monitors as far as their resolution capabilities actually. Well, not all of them, but they are almost to that point.
