What do I need to hook big speakers to my computer?

I want to hook up car subwoofer speakers to my home audio system on my computer. What circuitry is required to do this? I know I need a separate power source etc. What do I completely need?

  • Answer:

That's gonna be a lot of trouble but it is doable. You really just have to have a power source for the amp and somehow separate the speaker wires from your computer(the wires that connect to the speakers) so that you can connect them into the inputs on the amp. If you have an old set of computer speakers that you don't care about you could just clip and strip the wires then connect them to your amp. Why not just buy a new set of computer speakers with a subwoofer?

Other answers

From what I know.... Power Inverter ,from 120v to 12v Amplifier that can push the sub, connected to the PI An ear phone jack adapter to convert the sound from the pc into RCA mode. Radio Shack sells them for 5$ Hopefully it should work. I have seen it done but not from a pc, just a regular boom box.
