Do I need to remove wisdom teeth?

Will a Dentist ask you to remove your tongue piercing when you need to get wisdom teeth removed?

  • Answer:

Probably because there is a chance that it could either get in the way or it could cause an infection to the open wound in your mouth. The jewelry and piercing have both good and bad bacteria on it.. especially if your balls are acrylic that could cause your wounds to get infected easier than if they were metal balls.

Probably not, they would just cover it up.

Very possibly. Not only would they like to make sure they aren't risking hitting it and hurting you, but dentists are usually not fans of oral piercings. Some may require it out for insurance purposes, especially it's more than just a cleaning. I know I had to take mine out for surgery (not anywhere near my mouth), to get an MRI, and when I needed x-rays of my teeth, although my dentist was cool and would let me take it out at the last second and put it in the moment he was done.
