How much money do I need monthly to live in New York?

I'm going to New York in December..i live in Florida..what do I need to know? Get myself ready for? and approximately how much money would I need for any shopping over there?

Definitely bring a lot of warm clothes as New York gets very cold in the winter. If you're planning on doing a good amount of shopping I would say bring at least a few hundred dollars depending on how long you're staying for clothes, souvenoirs, and food. Even if you go to little shops and diners you will most likely be spending more than you would at home. And be prepared for ridiculous traffic. Also, map out where you want to go and be wary of shady areas.
