Can you hydroponically grow pitayas?

Im starting to grow Jalapeno, does anyone know what i should do? (soil type? amount of water? amount of sun? can you grow it hydroponically? can you grow them to optimize the "HOTNESS"?) WHAT EVER YOU GOT FOR ME!!

  • Answer:

I have only grown my peppers in outside gardens, but some do grow them hydroponically. So if you are using a garden this is what I have to offer. Choose a location with full sunlight for growing peppers, as jalapenos LOVE the sun. Mix in some mushroom compost or other organic compost to make the soil fertile and moist. Space the jalapeno pepper plants 18 - 36 inches apart with about 2 -3 feet between rows. The plants will eventually grow to nearly 3 feet high. Water ! Keep the soil constantly moist, but not soaking wet. Jalapeno peppers love water as much as they love sun, but you don't want to inundate the plants, or you run the risk of rotting. Water every other day or every third day. Include a good plant food product. Keep your jalapeno garden well weeded. You don't want nasty weeds stealing the water from your growing jalapeno peppers. As to making them hotter, I don't think there is a way, though I have heard people say watering them less makes them hotter, but I have not found this to be true. Good luck.

You need to get with a fellow ABer named "Ironhead". I think he might know about it. Not sure but he sure eats a lot of Jalapeno's. +5

The one time I tried to grow habeneros, the rabbits wiped them out in record time!
