Sounds like Windows has been corrupted, next time it happens, just try hitting CTRL, ALT and DELETE and look (Under the 'Processes' tab) for "explorer.exe" if it's there, right click it and hit "End Process Tree" click yes to the warning message, then on the CTRL ALT DELETE window select File>New Task (Run) and type: explorer.exe See if it loads up what you need, failing that... Try loading the PC in safe mode, (Just after the intel screen goes away keep hitting the "F8" key until it loads a black screen with white writing, from that list select "Safe Mode") If everything loads okay in that, restart your PC (I have found sometimes merely booting into safe mode can fix many problems). If noting loads in safe mode, get hold of a windows cd (preferebly the one that came with your machine, if not at least the same version of windows disk) boot from that. You'll see an option somewhere along the install to "Boot from Recovery Console", hit whatever key it prompts you to hit to load it, and then type (without quotations) "chkdsk /r" <-- That runs a check disk, Repair. It will search and repair missing files, and bad disk sectors. If that doesn't work there are many other commands that can be run, some of which that may benefit you are as follows: (All should be typed without quotation marks) "bootcfg /rebuild" <- will rebuild corrupted boot sectors "fixboot <drive letter>" <- Will write a brand new boot sector to the drive entered. Eg of this command: fixboot c: That will write a new boot sector to your C drive. Finally the "fixmbr" command... for this one you will need to type "map" then hit enter. Take note of the drive name, then type "fixmbr <Drive name>" This option repairs the boot record of the disk. Eg of use: "fixmbr /device/HardDisk1" Alternatively you can just type "fixmbr" and it will automatically find the drive and write a new master boot record to that drive. I hope that helps, give me a shout if there's anything else regards
