Doubtful. We once were the Treasure State now we've become the Big Sky State which is little more than a welfare state. Federal and state regulations peddled by the environmental movement have effectively destroyed much of the timber, mining, and other productive industries. Now we are more heavily reliant on tourism and the crappy service jobs that come with it instead. Things do seem to be improving with other industries cropping up but I'm not holding my breath. As to this particular law itself, it is designed to challenge the basis for not simply the federal gun control laws but much of the other federal regulations that many people feel are intrusive. The gun control laws have been justified under the Constitution's interstate commerce clause, that they have the right to regulate it because it can cross state lines. The newly passed law applies to firearms, silencers, etc. that are made in Montana and carries a requirement they stay in Montana in order to be free of the federal regulations. The argument is that if the item is made here and stays here, then the interstate commerce clause does not apply.

We already lost that right in the last Civil War. All they can really do is ignore Federal laws on an individual basis. The Feds can't arrest everyone, after all...

I hope it does. Montana is small enough (in terms of population and economic impact) that the United States would not be greatly harmed. Given that Montana gets $1.47 in federal benefits for every dollar they pay in federal taxes, the US might even come out 'money ahead' on the change. Then, the rest of the United States could watch the disaster unfold as Montana tries to make its nationhood work. I'm sure within about 1-2 years, Montana would be *begging* to be let back into the Union. Then maybe all of the 'teabaggers' would STFU...;-D...

Indeed, had the Federal government stuck to the things you listed above it is doubtful that Montanans would ever consider leaving. This is a thought experiment, not a prediction, not a recommendation.

"I say, you better be ready to use those bullets and silencers, because the South couldn't hang with the Union, and Montana doesn't have a snow ball's chance in hell." Ok what the hell does this mean? The South IS hanging hence the United part of the United States, they lost and now are part of the USA. Also Buddha is spelled with another "D" and a "H". Unless there is something called Bud A or he really likes buTTer, then im confused again.

well IF the Federal Governement would stay within the intent of the Constitution instead of re-interpeting it year after year after year and sponcering a whole sale invasion of illegal aliens and every other piece of S&%$ that washes up on our shores and others of that ilk, like and giving them the rights of citizens to vote on issues that affects the citizenery, instead of the making citizens criminals and criminals citizens there would not be a problem of course all of this crap goes all the way back to what was began in 1836 and pretty well tied it up by the end of the civil war, fraud, theft, murder, extortion and all ... it really hasn't changed only the color of the skin of those doing it ... ~Nemo~

They are either bullshitting or retarded, and either way they probably deserve what the consequences would be.
