What do you need at the anniversary party?

My parents surprise Anniversary party is in a few days. I need some advice. Do you normally do anything special for a Anniversary party? (activities, speeches...etc.)

    Whether it's for 25th, 40th, or 50th anniversary, have a nice cake, punch and coffee.* Have some nice sandwiches and snacks, possibly. Make it a surprise party; invite all your parents' friends. Select a location large enough to comfortably accommodate all the guest.....and that there are enough tables and chairs! Ask several of their very oldest friends to give a brief speech about happy memories with your parents. Remember, you're limited only by your imagination and your bank account. *Avoid serving/providing alcoholic beverages. Too often people take advantage of "free" alcohol, and end up doing something stupid and spoiling the party and the memories. Not only that, you could end up with a large liquor bill.

My family anniversaries usually consist of lots of alcohol and fights, so I doubt I can give you any decent pointers... However, what about having it, weather permitting, in your or a relatives garden and having a kind of picnicy buffety style thing on the grass? It's fun and original, and maybe you could combine that with some sports like rounders or soccer?
