What is the difference between ''Size" and "Size on Disk?

In Windows Vista, when I compress files into zip files to save hard disk space, the size is almost the same? It doesn't matter what type I am compressing, I see no difference.

  • Answer:

it does make a difference which type of file you are compressing I'm afraid. What are you trying to do?

Other answers

It should depend on what you are compressing. If it's jpg, mp3, mpeg, etc., those types are very highly compressed already, and another layer of added compression can sometimes *increase* their length. However, text files, html, doc, etc. should compress well.
