What do you think is the best American beer?

Are any American beers sold outside of North America? If you're out there, have you ever had an American beer, and what'd you think of it? (I don't drink, but I've heard that it has a reputation as being pathetic.)

  • Answer:

Analyze the situation, dude. What are the top-selling brands in the US? Bud Light (in a can), Coors Light, Michelob Light, Miller Light and that's it! Who drinks those? Hillbillies with 2 teeth left, wanna be hicks, idiots in university campuses all over the country and the residents of every trailer park from the East to the West Coast and in between. All of those brands taste like pee in a can, watered down with about 50 parts of water from a puddle Look at the brands that other people around the world drink and you'll see the different and why

I had a Budweiser when I was in Tahiti once and it tasted just as poorly there as it does here. Every beer company (yes even Budweiser now) with the exception of Sam Adams is owned by a foreign company as of 2007. Sam Adams is the only major beer that is made in America that I can think of that doesn't suck. There are however MANY microbreweries that put out good American beer. Overseas people like certain Sams also from my experiences.

Just for the record, I AM an American who loves beer. I prefer American beer, specifically Rolling Rock (now unfortunately owned by Budweiser) over the darker, headier European beers. It may not have the thickness, richness or color of European beer, but still I prefer it. IMHO, Sam Adams, almost any other Budweiser beer, Stout, Bass or any other heavy European beer taste like crap. I want a beer that I can slam on a hot day. For the life of me, I can't see how people can pour that dark swill down their throathole. I know I'll probably be DR'd for my personal opinion, but I'm tired of everyone bashing American beer all the time. If it wasn't tasty and popular, it wouldn't sell as much as it does. All of the beer nazis who think that only European beer deserves praise, should get a life.

Budweiser (yeccch) is everywhere. I have had Sam Adams (OK) and (I think) Seattle Steam Brewery (also OK). The American Big Brands (Budweiser, Miller, Coors etc) are disgusting. But there are many microbreweries doing beer as good as any in the world. It is not hard to get good beer in the US, at least in the big cities, but you just have to try two or three places or ask around.

I've just had Bud and Coors... I think both are pretty tasteless and watery. It does have a bad repuation in Europe at least, yes.
