When I encounter a PDF file, Adobe reader tells me I have to purchase and download Adobe professional or I cannot continue. This is a new Vista Home Premium system. I cannot open any PDF files. I have Reader 8 and Reader 9 downloaded.

That's realy odd. Are you sure you didn't have a trial version of Adobe Professional? No reason to run both Reader version 8 and 9 on the same computer. In fact, Adobe Reader 9 automatically removes previous Reader versions from the computer during the installation. What I would do is remove all versions of Adobe Reader, do a quick reboot, and then reinstall version 9 reader from Adobe's webiste. http://get.adobe.com/reader/
