Why the Windows Live Messenger is so nasty? The latest version 2009 is so lousy, and yet it would not let me download an older version.

I couldn't tell you beyond saying that MS is notorious about mandatory "upgrades". Personally, I *never* used the official Messenger software. I use Pidgin and get on *ALL* of the IM networks :)
