I planted a mixed greens lettuce seed mix and have loved the results, but in the middle of most of the clumps of greens is a tall flowering plant (smallish white flower) with sparse leaves, any idea what this is (or is it a weed?

It could be a weed, or if summer heat has arrived in your area it could be one of the lettuces (or other green leafy veg) that is going to seed. Lettuces, kale spinach and the like are cool weather crops, heat causes them to flower and go to seed.
